Kelly Rowland to Publish First Book ‘Whoa, Baby!’
When global pop star Kelly Rowland become a mom for the first time, giving birth to her son Titan, she felt the most incredible love she ever experienced. But after spending nine months so focused on the baby growing inside her, she was caught completely off guard by how much she had changed. Like many first-time moms, she was not ready for so many overwhelming new thoughts and emotions. But from the small things like decorating the baby’s room and purchasing clothes, to using baby seat discounts, everyday is a learning curve for Kelly as she becomes a new mother. She wondered: Will I Ever Walk Again? Will I Ever Sleep Again? Are My Boobs Always Going to Be Like This? Rowland had questions about everything from postpartum bleeding, skin and hair changes, and dealing with aches and pains to getting back in shape and sex after baby. She also weighed larger notions about she wanted out of motherhood and the rest of her life.
It was a good thing that Rowland’s longtime OB/GYN Dr. Tristan Emily Bickman was right there to answer every single crazy questions that popped into her head. Nothing fazed Dr. Bickman and she provided Rowland with the answers she so desperately needed, telling her over and over that, in the months after a woman gives birth, nothing is exactly strange, but nothing is necessarily normal either. It’s all just part of the “miracle” of birth.
In Whoa, Baby! Rowland and Dr. Bickman team up to share this reassuring information with new moms everywhere. From going from listening to baby songs on repeat to calm your child down during the nights, to getting them ready for the first day of school and watching them grow up before your very eyes, being a mom can have its challenges, but it is very rewarding. Often hilarious and always down-to-earth, Rowland and Dr. Bickman cover every surprising challenge that new moms face.
“I’ve been over and over that not every woman has such a cut-and-dried, tell-it-like-it-is obstetrician and experienced mom to dish out sanity-restoring advice at any hour of the day or night. That’s why, during a postpartum follow-up one day, Dr. B. and I came up with the idea to write this book. We wanted to give new moms a go-to place for all the answers they’re looking for. There are so many guides to what our kids need, from the time they’re the size of a poppy seed to the time they start kindergarten. But what about what the mother needs? It’s crazy to watch out quickly our babies’ bodies grow, but what about what’s happening to our bodies? And then we had our big idea. What if we could combine my questions as a new mom with Dr. Bickman’s wisdom as a doctor and mother into a go-to book for new mothers? And that’s what we’ve tried to do in Whoa, Baby!”—Kelly Rowland
